Accountant / Bookkeeper
What You Will Be Doing, as Accountant / Bookkeeper:
- Full-cycle accounting processes, management and monthly closes
- Ensuring the creation of accurate and timely financial statements
- Conduct periodic reconciliations of all accounts to ensure their accuracy
- Assess and close all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis, validate content and resolve various issues.
- Reconcile bank statement and review payroll records
- Ability to handle quarter-end and year end audits; assemble information for external auditors
- Handle accounts receivable and payable, bank deposits and expense reports, customer credit and cash flow
- Complete HST returns and other CRA reporting, as required
- Prepare quarterly government remittances as required
- Prepare ledger entries on a daily basis and update financial data in the company system
- Furnish senior company executives with various ad-hoc reports
- Maintain an organized working environment by ensuring that various business records and filing are up-to-date and in order
- Conducting FP&A analysis
- Driving budgetary compliance and analyzing actual-to-budget performance
- Managing tax compliance procedures
- Drive positive changes in non-accounting processes impacting financial reporting
- Mitigate and prevent risks
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and accounting standards
- Cross-trained on payroll and work collaboratively with the payroll team
- Calculate monthly bonuses and commissions for employees
- Calculate annual customer rebates
- Heavy data entry on monthly basis
What You Should Have, as an Accountant / Bookkeeper:
- CPA (or will be obtaining CPA within 12 months)
- Proven experience as an accountant / bookkeeper
- Experience in the financial sector with previous possible roles such as financial analyst
- Extensive understanding of financial trends both within the company and general market patterns
- Proficient user of finance software
- Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Able to manage, guide and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes are being used
- Experience with multi-location/branch businesses
- A solid understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles
- Working knowledge of all statutory legislation and regulations
- BS/MA degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics
- Professional qualification such as CFA/CPA or similar will be considered a plus
