This is a rapidly expanding, family-owned wholesale distributor with a robust supply chain network spanning across Ontario, the Maritimes, and the United States. They specialize in procuring greenhouse goods from farms to supply major grocery chains, florists, and event specialists with high-quality, time-sensitive products
 
The Purchaser drives growth and ensures exceptional service by strategically procuring floral products from global suppliers. This role involves managing supplier relationships, aligning purchases with sales goals, and maintaining accurate pricing, requiring a strong understanding of perishable goods, market trends, and excellent negotiation and analytical skills.
 
What you will be doing as a Purchaser 
 
  • Create and transmit purchase orders weekly with all local/international suppliers using Florisoft
  • Manage purchase requests from sales with growers through phone and email correspondence, ensuring product availability, shortages and substitutes. 
  • Administer and communicate all discrepancies, shortages and/or substitutes to the appropriate units, including but not limited to sales team members, DSM and other purchasers. 
  • Source product and communicate logistics for all last-minute orders by quick analytical judgment based on the level of commitment to the customers, determined by the sales account manager or DSM. 
  • Correspond to all pickups for local product with the logistics administrator to ensure all logistics are arranged weekly. 
  • Correspond with local/international growers weekly to determine product availability prior to compiling the data into Florisoft and producing a price list for distribution. 
  • Conduct research and proper due diligence to source additional products from current or new suppliers according to company needs, understanding industry trends and communicating such with management and other company team members. 
  • Some travel to visit growers and other vendors of interest (current and new) to build strong, strategic relationships and stay current with offerings, new items, new procedures etc. 
  • Build and administer peak period holiday availability lists in advance to optimize sales managers’ ability to pre-book. Holidays include Valentine’s Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. 
  • Source and communicate to SAM any special offerings from growers throughout the year, continually endeavoring to support the sales teams’ efforts to increase sales and margins. 
  • Collaborate with the Marketing team to produce flyers for special items and or pre-book opportunities and flash sales. 
  • Manage and administer all product pricing in coloration with the weekly availability lists. 
  • Reflect/update pricing weekly according to market fluctuations, supply and demand, vigilantly corresponding with the DSM when applicable, in addition to best practices. 
  • Create in advance of all floral holidays, pricelists in correlation to the availability lists. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
 
What you should have as a Purchaser:  
 
  •                  Diploma or certificate in purchasing, supply chain or related field 
  •                  5+ years in purchasing/procurement/sales 
  •                  Exceptional negotiation skills 
  •                  Basic accounting skills 
  •                  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills 
  •                  Ability to prioritize and multitask across disciplines 
  •                  Excellent written and verbal communication 
  •                  Excellent interpersonal skills 
  •                  Quick, on-the-ball thinking. 
  •                  High competency level in using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) 
  •                  Ability to foresee and/or recognize to needs of the sales team to procure products efficiently 
  •                  Experience providing Client/Customer Relationship Management
  •                  Strong forecasting abilities 
  •                  An ability to work independently 
  •                  Interest in world events that may affect the supply chain 
  •                  Ability and interest in learning new software programs 
  •                  Driven, with a strong work ethic and sense of self 
  •                  Willingness to put in extra hours to ensure the needs of the organization are met

The Shift You Will Be Working is: 
 
  • Monday to Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm
