Welder – Contract
About Our Client
Our client has operated since 1976 as the leading Canadian manufacturer of steel building systems in Aylmer. Their primary focus is fostering and maintaining positive long-term relationships with employees, suppliers, clients and communities they live/work in. They build aesthetically beautiful, functional and durable steel structures. They are a build-to-suit business, so most of your work will be different each time.
What You Will Be Doing, as a Welder:
- MIG weld - NOT machine welding
- Fit and weld 3 plate and hot rolled structural components.
- Welding and fitting of various parts that meets or exceeds quality expectations (A660 / ISO 9001) and requires no (or minimal) rework
- Working to ensure a consistent flow of parts from the 3 Plate Line to Paint at a pace that meets or exceeds production level requirements.
- Inspect incoming material
- Finish welding of assigned parts as per the drawings supplied for the specific part
- Fit and weld 3 plate and hot rolled structural components. Joints may be critical or non-critical to field fit-up.
- Repair any deficiencies found during the inspection
- Welding must be completed in accordance with applicable standards and procedures
- Ensure part is complete and ready for the next step in the production process
- Guiding and liaising with other employees in their area
- Gride and clean using a wire wheel
- Ensure work area is kept clean and clear of hazards
- Ensure correct information is recorded in time and attendance system
- Will move to different stations that are not welding and you must be okay with that
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Should Have, as a Welder:
- Previous experience of 2 years is required
- Experience with cranes is an asset but not a requirement
- Execute all the weld procedures required in the welding area, including the necessary preparation, such as grinding or arc air
- Understand welding procedures and practices including welding symbols
- Understand and perform proper fit up techniques
- Be able to perform basic visual weld inspections appearance, fusion, penetration, etc.
- Reading and interpreting drawings
- Understand material characteristics and requirements (i.e.: thickness, width, sweep and camber tolerances)
- Be able to complete all physical requirements of the job
- Material handling techniques (use of cranes, slings, etc)
- Secondary school diploma or high school equivalent as a minimum.
- Welders certificate or ticket (MCAW E491C-6M-H4/H8)
- Maintain a level of education necessary to keep pace with new manufacturing technology and company requirements.
- Successful completion of Jr Welder Fitter classification
- Must have your own PPE - CSA Approved Steel Toed Boots, Safety Glasses.
- Good verbal communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Reliable and safety focused.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
In Return, You Will Receive:
- $30.00 per hour + 4% vacation pay accrued and paid out on request
- Afternoon shift premium of an extra $1.00 per hour
- Opportunity for long term employment
The Shift You Will be Working is:
- May to September (possibility of longer for the right candidate but not guaranteed)
- Monday to Friday (days) 7am to 4pm (Fridays, off at 3:30pm)
OR
- Monday to Friday (afternoons) 4pm to 3am (last shift before weekends ends at 2:30am)
