What You Will Be Doing, as a Printing Press Operator:
Review daily schedules and dockets to determine production, film, inputs, and correct press machines for output, setting up the press to correspond with the information on the docket including sleeves and carries if needed.
- Confirm all supplies and materials are correct and prepared for production, while performing roll and job checks for quality standards, assigning jobs for the Printing Press Assistants when needed.
- Use Tori to access and enter information for production into the press, system and colour measures; scan UPC and colours accurately per roll.
- Ensure printed material matches the docket as well as art and customer specifications, while monitoring cameras and roll geometry frequently.
- Lead a team of Printing Press Assistants and ensure they remain on task, providing guidance and development opportunities.
- Prepare upcoming scheduled jobs in advance of the current job completion to reduce production gaps.
- Clean blades, pans floor and press, and other light maintenance duties on the press as needed.
- Aid other Printing Press Operators or Printing Press Assistants as necessary.
- Complete any related paperwork and/or computer work for jobs.
- Review, update or create process-control reports and verify correct information for the order and future subsequential orders.
- Setup machine as per process control and fine tunes the machine, so it is running at maximum output without jeopardizing quality or output.
- Assists with and performs set-ups on machines and makes sure equipment is at machine one hour before the set-up.
- Identifies when machines need repair and write work orders or perform repairs if it is a minor maintenance issue; troubleshoots issues on the machines.
- Protect the health and safety of yourself and others by performing safety circle checks on equipment, creating work orders to repair damaged equipment, and keeping common workstations and areas clean.
- Work as a team to overcome shift obstacles, exceed daily department targets and celebrate team successes.
What You Should Have, as a Printing Press Operator:
- High School Diploma, or GED Equivalent
- Past working knowledge or experience working with a variety of flexographic printing environments and equipment, or other transferable machinery skills would be an advantage
- The ability to see and understand colour; experience with colour theory would be an advantage
- Ability to adapt to new situations, solve problems, and work with minimal supervision
- High level of personal integrity and accountability, with mutual respect in dealing and speaking with others
- A positive outlook, team-oriented mindset, and a willingness to learn and grow as a person and team
