Employee Responsibilities: Late, Early Leave or Absent from Work

Attendance Program in Accordance to Your Assignment

It is imperative that employees present themselves for work on time and regularly within their scheduled shifts and overtime assignments. Because each employee’s attendance is so critical, we have created an attendance program based on accountability in accordance to your assignment, only.

Types of Absence

a) Authorized Absences/Late (0 points)

Refers to absences or late shift starts that are reported with over 12 hours’ notice of an absence or late, such as time off due to a personal reason, a pre-planned appointment and/or a requested time off in advance. 

 

b) Unexcused Absences (5 points)

  1. Refers to absences (i.e. sick, need time off etc.) that are reported with less than 12 hours’ notice. (5 points)
  2. Refers to absences that are reported with less than 12 hours’ notice, but evidence of the leave is provided. (3 points)

 

c) Late Starts (2 Points)

Refers to any late starts passed 1 minute of shift time start. For everyone minute late, you will lose 15 minutes of time for every quarter hour off your pay. Any late starts over 30 min late, the employee may be sent home without pay unless authorized as per section (A) of this type of absence.

 

d) Early Departure (5 Points)

Refers to any early departure from a regular shift time without approval from Vertical. Employees will be paid up until the time of departure; should they leave prior to 15-minute interval, time outs will be rounded down to the nearest 15 minutes.

 

e) No Call, No Show (Written Warning)

Is not included amongst the list of unexcused absences. This also includes not notifying on an absence before your shift start time. It is more than that. It is an automatic written warning!!!!

Points will be accumulated on an ongoing basis. The steps are listed below:

Improvement Factor

An “Improvement Factor” will be applied where after one month of no instances (clear period), the employee will be rewarded with the last discipline step being removed.

Employee of the month/attendance program

For employees who have zero demerit points against them at the end of each month, they will have their name automatically entered into a draw and a name will be chosen at random to receive a $100 gift card from Vertical Staffing Resources and will be named employee of the month and featured on our bulletin board.

Attendance Program in Accordance to Your Employment

After two weeks of consecutive employment, all Vertical Employees are entitled to 8 days of unpaid leave as follows:

  • Sick Leave: Leave of absence without pay because of personal illness, injury or medical emergency. (3 days)
  • Family Responsibility Leave: Leave of absence without pay because of any of the following (3 days):
    • The illness, injury or medical emergency of a family member as described in the ESA.
    • An urgent matter that concerns a family member as described in the ESA.
  • Bereavement Leave: Leave of absence without pay because of the death of a family member as described in the ESA (2 days).

Any further absences outside of the above stipulated entitlement leaves will result in the following point progression regarding disciplinary action and your employment with Vertical Staffing Resources Inc.
