Bookkeeper - Barrie, ON - Permanent

About Our Client: Our client provides professional accounting, tax and consulting services to Barrie and the surrounding areas. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing client books, recording day-to-day financial transactions, and supporting our accountants in delivering timely and accurate financial reporting. What You Will Be Doing, as a Bookkeeper:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client financial records using accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage).
  • Record all financial transactions including purchases, sales, receipts, and payments.
  • Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and other financial documents.
  • Prepare and file HST/GST returns and other government remittances (e.g., WSIB, payroll source deductions).
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end working papers and documents for review engagements or tax filings.
  • Communicate directly with clients to obtain necessary financial data and resolve bookkeeping discrepancies.
  • Support firm accountants with ad hoc tasks, analysis, and reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Should Have, as a Bookkeeper:

  • 2+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
  • Public practice environment experience is an asset.
  • Experience with CRA compliance preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles and accounting best practices.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks (Online/Desktop), and/or Sage.
  • Familiarity with tax preparation software (e.g., TaxPrep) is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
  • Completion of or working towards an accounting/bookkeeping designation an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple client files and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills and a client-service mindset.
